El Shaarawy: We cut out the silly mistakes

Stephan El Shaarawy was pleased to see his team learn the lessons of Thursday night and avoid making the same mistakes in their victory over Palermo on Sunday

The Giallorossi romped to a 4-1 win at the Stadio Olimpico, just days after throwing away a two-goal advantage in their Europa League meeting with Austria Wien.

Faced with another 3-1 advantage with 10 minutes remaining, El Shaarawy scored a decisive goal to wrap up the points and return Roma to second in the Serie A standings.

"It was a great victory," El Shaarawy said. "We didn't make the mistakes we made against Austria Wien, in other words giving the ball away stupidly.

"After we went into a 2-0 lead, we controlled the game, kept possession well and managed to score a couple more to make it 4-1. Now we just need to add more consistency."

The Giallorossi attack is scoring bags of goals.

"Yes, that's important but not conceding is even more so. Up front we create loads of chances and we manage to finish our moves off but at the back we have to know how to defend well as a team."

After a difficult start, personally you've been in a rich vein of form recently.

"As I mentioned in the pre-match press conference before the Austria Wien game, I've always tried to train well and offer what I can. All this hard work is paying off, so I'm pleased. Let's continue in the same way."

You're two points off top spot now, how far can this Roma side go?

"We can go as far as we want, only if we continue performing at this level. We're a great side and we have to focus on doing well game after game."
