Martinez was in the stands as Nainggolan scored the winner against AC Milan on Monday night, assessing the tenacious midfielder after leaving him out of his most recent squad.
And it seems like the Giallorossi No. 4 made an impression.
"Nainggolan can play anywhere in the middle of the park," Martinez said. "He's got great ability and his attributes are probably highlighted more when he's given greater freedom to roam.
"I'm pleased he found the net. I know he scored another goal the previous week, against Lazio."
On whether that means he'll be called up next time: "There's still time [before our next games]. We'll see..."
Martinez did not get the opportunity to see another of his potential players, Thomas Vermaelen, in action - but believes he will soon have an important role to play in Luciano Spalletti's squad.
"I hope his injury problems are behind him," the former Everton boss added. "He will definitely play a big part at Roma. He has great experience having played for Ajax, Arsenal and Barcelona."
