10 things you need to know about Juan Jesus

1. Juan Guilherme Jesus Nunes, better known as Juan Jesus, was born in Belo Horizonte, the capital of the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais, on 10 June 1991.

2. The Brazilian defender came up through the youth academy at Internacional in Porto Alegre, making his debut against Deportivo Quito in the Copa Libertadores on 12 March 2010 at the age of 18 years, nine months and two days.

3. Juan Jesus played with the Internacional first team until January 2012, making 26 appearances in total. During his time with the Brazilian club, Juan Jesus was part of the squad that won the Copa Libertadores in 2010, the Campeonato Gaucho in 2011 and the Recopa Sudamericana in 2011.

4. Juan Jesus’ first professional club, Internacional, was the same club that the star of Roma’s second Scudetto win in 1982-83, Paulo Roberto Falcao, played for before joining the Giallorossi in 1980. Juan Jesus’ new team-mate, goalkeeper Alisson, also played for Internacional between 2013 and 2016.

5. On 31 January 2012, Juan Jesus left Internacional to join Inter. He made his Serie A debut on 13 May 2012, against Lazio on the last day of the season.

6. The Brazilian went on to become an important part of the Inter defence over the four seasons that followed, racking up 109 league appearances and one goal between the 2012-13 and 2015-16 seasons.

7. Juan Jesus has made a number of appearances for the Brazil youth teams. The defender was called up by Brazil U20s boss Ney Franco for the South American Youth Football Championship in January 2011, playing every one of Brazil’s eight matches as they won the competition.

8. Juan Jesus then took part in the U20 World Cup later on in 2011. He played in six of Brazil’s seven matches as they once again ran out victorious.

9. In the summer of 2012, he was part of the Brazilian Olympic team for London 2012. He started every game as Brazil had to settle for a silver medal after losing out in the final to Mexico.
