Edin Dzeko and Kostas Manolas were the goalscorers for the Giallorossi, sparking triumphant celebrations from De Rossi and the rest of the squad at the full-time whistle.
"We played well tonight, we started strongly and had lots of chances besides the goal," De Rossi said. "We afforded them some opportunities but we were more solid than usual.
"We dropped too deep in the second half but our response to their equaliser was incredible. That shows the team is getting back to its old self, once and for all.
"Now there's the international break and we'll have a bit of a breather but when we come back we'll face another really tough game."
There were furious celebrations after Dzeko's goal.
"We're always all very happy when we score against Inter. We're in the dressing room day in, day out, and when the guy who scores is someone who's come in for criticism or had a tough time of things, personally I'm even happier."
It was a great game albeit perhaps with a few too many scares...
"Yes, we had some hairy moments, too many in terms of the perfect team we want to be. The sides that win the league have fewer scares than that, although you do tend to give Inter a look in, especially when they push forward so much. Some of the statistics in general are important.
"People claimed the team ran more in the second half against Sampdoria but the numbers said the opposite. That shows we need to be set up better, more tactically aware and we must be stronger in the challenge and tidier when passing the ball. A lot of it comes down to our mindset."
Did you feel the crowd? Even part of the Curva Sud was full.
"We thank all of the fans that came to the stadium today, they were fantastic. The Curva Sud is filling up but it's not the same thing. The aim is to bring back the supporters who were here before and who always came on away trips. We mustn't use the absence of the fans behind the goal as an excuse, especially given we've won every match at home. I've always dreamed of playing in front of a full stadium, including the Curva Sud.
"This situation needs sorting out as soon as possible, we players also have to do a bit extra and discuss it more. What the Roma and Lazio fans are going through is not right. Baldissoni has suggested going to play in another ground. I'm all for it because we believe in what's right and I don't think this is."
