Nainggolan: If you switch off it's hard to get a result

AS Roma

Radja Nainggolan urged his teammates to learn the lessons from a disappointing draw against Austria Wien on Thursday.

The Giallorossi were in complete control of the contest at the Stadio Olimpico, but contrived to concede two late goals in an eventual 3-3 draw.

Luciano Spalletti's side remain top of their Europa League group, albeit only on goal difference, but Nainggolan wants the team to show greater concentration in such situations in future.

“I don't think anyone expected a result like this after we beat Napoli," the Belgian said. "Wins normally breed more wins but sometimes we come up short in games we expect to win – that's an area we need to improve.

"We must learn from these mistakes and do better in the games we should be winning.”

How do you think [Leandro] Paredes and Gerson did in midfield?

“They're both great players, both skilful and good on the ball. Paredes is a bit more experienced but Gerson is sure of his ability and little by little he'll show it this season.”

Spalletti says Roma tend to ease off a tad after a big result.

“I don't know about that. At 3-1 we were in complete control – they were barely threatening us at all. We had the ball all the time. Then they got it back to 3-2 and we just switched off when they got their third. You might be better than your opponents but if you switch off against teams like this it will always be hard to get a result.”
