The Giallorossi won 4-2 against Austria Wien to move one step closer to the Europa League group stages, with Nainggolan pleased at the three points.
“We played well and reacted straight away after we fell behind early on," Nainggolan said. "It was cold and we were a little tired, so we were in a spot of bother after they took the lead.
"That said, we deserved to get the win tonight.”
Did you have something to prove tonight?
“We messed up against Austria Wien at home, then we played well against Empoli and created a lot of chances but still drew. The goals came tonight – sometimes things just go your way but I think we played much better against Empoli than we did tonight. Obviously, it’s the little things that decide these games. We wanted to bounce back and we’ve done that. Our performance tonight made up for the home game.”
The defence held tonight despite you being short at the back, with De Rossi pulling the strings in the centre there.
“Daniele has played there in the past. He uses the ball well and is a good player in that position. We had lots of chances tonight and I think we can be satisfied. The important thing was to win to put us on the brink of qualification.”
Why is Edin Dzeko doing so much better this season?
“It’s never easy in Italy, even for the best players. Serie A is a very tactical league and it’s not easy for people coming from abroad to get used to it. He barely got going last year and people started to criticise him after two games without a goal. He’s always looked sharp in training and this year he’s proving himself with lots of goals so I hope he can keep it up. He’s in good form and he’s showing he’s a top striker.”
