Mario Rui: I'm ready to step up for the team

MAR

Roma full-back Mario Rui spoke to Sky Sports Italia on Friday, as his side prepare for a packed run of fixtures

The Portuguese insisted he is ready to step and contribute during what is set to be a crucial phase of the campaign for the Giallorossi.

See everything Mario Rui had to say below.

How's it going?

“Everything's been going well so far. I'm not quite back to 100% yet but I'm working hard and training well. I don't think I've ever worked as hard as I have these last few months!”

So you're ready to fight for your place in the team?

“I'll try to do everything I can to give the coach a selection headache, although I realise the team is playing well at the moment.”

What's Luciano Spalletti like?

“He's utterly determined to instil a winning culture in his players. He wants nothing but good performances and victory.

"He ask the team to give everything from the first minute to the last, even when we are already winning the game."

What's the Roma dressing room like?

“There's a great atmosphere, very relaxed. The lads have been brilliant and they've really made me feel at ease. That helped a lot during my recovery.”

Do you think Roma are on the right path to success?

“I think we are, yes. We need to keep building on what the team's been doing since the coach came in.”

Does your rivalry with Emerson give you added incentive?

“It does, and we get on really well. He's proving what a great player he is. I noticed since the summer training camp that he has great qualities. Now, with the confidence the coach is giving him, he is getting what he deserves."

Roma have five games in 14 days now. Are you ready?

“I am. From here on in I can only get better!”
