The Giallorossi emerged 1-0 winners thanks to Armando Izzo's first half own goal, clinching an important victory at a ground where both Juventus and AC Milan have already lost this season.
The win was an important way to begin the New Year, as De Rossi acknowledged.
“We’ve had a few blips on the road, but they’ve all been different. It was a huge match today at a ground where many teams have come and lost," De Rossi said. "It’s one of the toughest away games of the season and we were excellent.”
How important was it to win such a scrappy match?
“I think we dealt with it being scrappy well – it was the same at Empoli. Only against Cagliari did we fall short. We played well at Fiorentina too and perhaps we deserved something from the game. Torino away was another good performance.”
This result means you stay three points clear of Napoli.
“Yes, because Napoli won too. It’s going to be a long season – an exciting one – and anything can happen, both positive and negative. We need to maintain our determination to win and keep the level of attention to detail we showed today. We had players on bookings like [Toni] Rudiger and [Kevin] Strootman who avoided committing any more fouls to ensure they didn’t get a second yellow. There were lots of good points on show today – it was a very tricky away trip.”
