Rudiger plays 90 minutes as Germany beat Australia

Defender Antonio Rudiger played the full game as Germany opened their Confederations Cup campaign with a 3-2 victory over Australia on Monday.

Rudiger was selected in the defence by coach Joachim Loew, as the World Cup holders began the competition in Russia with a hard-fought win.

Germany led early through Lars Stindl, before being pegged back soon after. Further goals from Julian Draxler and Leon Goretzka either side of half-time made things comfortable for the Europeans, although Tomislav Juric's second goal for Australia ensured a somewhat nervy final 30 minutes.

Germany's next game is against Chile on Thursday.
