It ensured the result matched a positive performance for Roma, with Diego Perotti converting an early penalty and then second half-substitute Cengiz Under grabbing his first goal for the club midway through the second period.

With the game appearing over a couple of scrambled goals from Harry Winks and Vincent Jansen suddenly changed the balance completely - at least until Tumminello appeared inside the six-yard box to steer home Kevin Strootman's cross.

Roma's third and final game of the International Champions Cup arrives on Sunday, as they face rivals Juventus at Foxborough.
