Primavera reach Final Eight thanks to last-gasp winner

EFLK

Roma's Primavera side reached the Final Eight - and with it kept alive their Serie A title hopes - with a thrilling 2-1 victory over Genoa at Stadio Tre Fontane on Saturday.

Captain Eros De Santis scored deep into injury-time to secure the win for Alberto De Rossi's side, after Edoardo Soleri had previously equalised for the Giallorossi.

Genoa lead at half-time after an early strike against the run of play, but were eventually overwhelmed after a determined second half effort from the Under-19s.

"The team showed so much heart, so much determination and football intelligence," De Rossi said afterwards. "The boys did not get angry and did not lose energy. It was a great team effort, from a great Roma team.

"In the second part of the league campaign, the boys have had some drops and some criticism, but have worked hard and slowly turned back into the devastating team that has shown great things this season."

The result means the Primavera will compete in the Final Eight, the final knockout phase of the competition that will eventually decide this season's title winner.
