Alisson targetting silverware this season

Goalkeeper Alisson Becker believes Roma need to put in the hard work now if they are to close the gap at the top of Serie A.

The Giallorossi finished second in the table last season, four points behind eventual champions Juventus, and Alisson is aware that the group need to find areas for improvement if they are to end the Bianconeri's domination in the coming campaign.

“By winning every game - and in order to do that, we need to work hard," Alisson said, when asked what the Giallorossi need to do to beat their rivals.

"That’s what we’re doing – we want to win as much as possible.”

He added: “Juve are a very good side. They’ve lost two key players in [Leonardo] Bonucci and Dani Alves, who is a Brazil team-mate of mine and a very good player, but they’re still a really strong team. We’ll need to be at our best to compete with them and the other big teams.”

As he enters his second season with Roma, Alisson is looking to establish himself as the club's No. 1 after a debut campaign spent largely learning from the sidelines.

“I want to establish myself at Roma and become the first-choice goalkeeper," he said. "This is a special year for Roma and there’s the World Cup at the end of the season. As a club we’re going to be competing in some very important competitions – the Champions League, Serie A and the Coppa Italia.

"I want to do my best for the team and the club. I’d like to win the Scudetto or at least get my hands on some silverware.”

The goalkeeper acknowledged that he had an additional incentive after last season's frustrations, where he played in the cup competitions as Wojciech Szczesny started in the league.

“I joined this club to play and I did expect to play more, but it was the boss’ call and I had to respect that," he said. "I took advantage of it to train as well as I could and I remained the Brazil goalkeeper, which was good for me.”

He added: "We’re starting to get to know [the new coach] better and you can see that he’s a coach that knows how to organise a team and manage a group properly both on and off the field.”
