Pinzolo, Day 3: Florenzi gives recovery update as Rudiger departs

IMAG

There was to be no rest for the players on Sunday, as they completed the second day of double training in the mountains of Trentino...

Before the morning training session, where he would play a limited part, Alessandro Florenzi dropped in on Roma TV to discuss his ongoing recovery and how he is preparing for the new campaign.

“I think I have a date [to return], more or less, but you can’t get ahead of yourself," Florenzi said. "Before the second injury I wanted to attack everything to get back.

"Now, more so even than before, I’m trying to be restrained. The results so far are the right ones.”

After Florenzi's interview the players got down to the day's hard work. In the morning the players split into two groups, with the attack and defence working on their respective phases of the play.

In the afternoon, after some initial workouts, the group came together to play through a variety of mini-match scenarios.

Any other big news?

Late in the day, the announcement was made that defender Antonio Rudiger has joined Chelsea on a five-year-deal.

"This farewell is not easy for me because I really enjoyed playing for Roma with its supporters, and I made a lot of friends in the team," Rudiger wrote.

"I want to take this opportunity to thank the whole Roma staff and all the fans and my teammates for their support in two amazing years in Rome!"

What was said?

On Sunday it was the turn of Rick Karsdorp to face the media for the first time, as he was presented as a Roma player alongside sporting director Monchi.

:It’s really important for me that Kevin [Strootman] is here. He strongly recommended that I sign for Roma and spoke very highly about the club. All my other team-mates have made me feel very welcome and are helping me out a lot, so I’m really happy.”

“They’re not the players I’ve been considering and having conversations with Eusebio [Di Francesco] about. We’re working on players whose names aren’t out in the press. Vela, Ben Arfa and Thauvin are all good players, but they’re not Roma’s main targets. We’re working on a number of things, but rather than focusing on particular names I want us to create a competitive group.”

- Monchi
