Perotti delighted to play another starring role

The Giallorossi beat Qarabag 1-0 at the Stadio Olimpico to finish in first place in Group C, edging out Premier League champions Chelsea and relegating Atletico Madrid to the Europa League.

Perotti scored the game's only goal, a header, early in the second half.

“It's a fantastic moment for us," Perotti said. "When the draw was made no-one really believed in us, but we got our heads down and worked really hard. We deserved to finish top.”

Although the night ended almost perfectly it was not all plain sailing for the Giallorossi, with Qarabag making it difficult for the hosts to really make much attacking headway.

“They really battened down the hatches – anyone would have thought they had something riding on it," he added. "That's how it should be, though. They played their game. We bided our time and kept our wits about us.

"Games like this are often the most dangerous. We all stuck together and probed for an opening together. Now we can enjoy the moment.”
