"We knew we would have faced a top side, whoever we got," club director Francesco Totti said afterwards.
"But we are convinced we will represent our colours well."
Coach Eusebio Di Francesco echoed the Roma legend's comments.
“The draw has handed us one of the toughest sides in the world, with the best player in the world – Lionel Messi,” Di Francesco said.
“We’ve got this far by playing with courage, determination and hard work: we will continue to push forward with enthusiasm and confidence.”
Sporting director Monchi was similarly upbeat.
“We know it will be tough, against the side that is perhaps the best in the world – but we are where we are on merit,” he said. “We have to have the right mentality.”
Elsewhere, the draw saw a rematch of last season's final: as Real Madrid face Juventus.
An all-English tie between Liverpool and Manchester City will take place the same nights the Giallorossi in action - while the other tie will see Sevilla and Bayern Munich go head-to-head.
