Perotti: We must remember we only need one goal

“We need to look at the things we got wrong in the second half," Perotti said. "But we must keep in mind that a goal in the return leg would be enough to see us through."

Why was there such a difference between the first and second half?

“I'd like to know the answer to that one myself! We should have won the game considering how well we played in the first half and I'm really sorry we performed the way we did after the restart. All the blame lies with those of us who were out there on the pitch.

“It would have been a huge blow if we'd conceded a third but now we only need one goal to go through. We can't afford a repeat of that second half, though.

“We have two tough matches coming up now against AC Milan and Napoli, then we can think about the second leg.”

When you worked on how to defend against Shakhtar, did you consider how strong they are in the wide areas?

“It looked like it in the first half but then we did things differently after the interval. It's annoying because we scored a huge goal. I don't know if their equaliser took the wind out of our sails or what.

“Perhaps we lack a little experience. We must do better, in any case. Now we must get our heads down and work hard.”
