El Shaarawy scored just before half-time to break the deadlock at the Stadio Ezio Scida, as Radja Nainggolan's second half goal completed a 2-0 win.
“It’s very pleasing, I’d gone a little while without a goal," El Shaarawy said. "We have won at a difficult place to go and have shown we have consistency. We are happy with the result.
On returning to goalscoring ways, he added: “It can happen that you go through a phase lacking a bit of sharpness. It’s important to keep plugging away, and in the end the goal arrived.
"When you believe in what you are doing, when you have focus and the right spirit then things generally go better. Today we had the right enthusiasm and aggression and brought home the win."
The forward was asked about the upcoming Champions League tie with Barcelona.
“We must be who we are – try to play our style," he noted. "But before all that we have another important game in the league and we must think only about that.”
