Fazio: This team is making progress

Federico Fazio helped ensure Roma kept a second clean sheet in five days and insisted that the result was down to a strong start and the team playing as a collective unit for the entire 90 minutes

“We’re pleased and we’re doing well, as our results have been showing recently,” Fazio told Roma TV after the match. “We put in a great performance and it was very important we scored four goals while conceding none."

How important was the team’s mental approach and not underestimating the opposition?

"Extremely. It wasn’t an easy fixture, but we made it so by playing well right from the off. We started strongly and played as a team for the entire 90 minutes."

Does anything change when you play on the right of central defence next to Juan Jesus?

"No, it’s all the same for me whether I play on the right or left, or even if we’re playing three at the back or four. I’m ready to play, the rest is up to the gaffer. We’re all prepared to do what he asks of us and perform when called upon."

The defence seemed to slack off a bit when the score was 3-0...

"In the second half, we lost the ball too cheaply and this mustn’t happen. We dropped our tempo and concentration a bit. However, this aside, I should stress that in general we put in a great performance, all included."

You showed good grit: do you think this side has enough fighting spirit to be in contention for the whole season?

"Yes, this is a very important quality. We have to fight from the first whistle to the last. This team is making progress and you can see it."
