On Wednesday evening Kevin Strootman reached a milestone for Roma, as he made his 100th appearance for the club

Strootman came on as a second half substitute at the Estadio Metropolitano, as the Giallorossi unfortunately suffered a 2-0 defat against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.

The 27-year-old has been a fan favourite for Roma ever since joining the club in 2013, impressing with his all-action playing style and combative midfield presence.

After overcoming two serious knee injuries, last season Strootman was an almost ever-present as Roma qualified for the group stages of the Champions League.

In total he has scored 12 goals for Roma - some of them very memorable. His Coppa Italia winner against Napoli during his debut campaign was a brilliant long-range effort, while last season he scored a pivotal opening goal to help win the Derby della Capitale.

In the summer Strootman signed a new long-term contract extension, committing his Roma future until 2022.

“I really want to win something here, and I will do everything I can to achieve that," Strootman said at the time.

"Everyone at the club was behind me during my injury, and that is another reason I am delighted to stay.”
