Abraham grabbed the opening two goals – the second awarded to him after defender Gianluca Mancini had initially claimed it – to set the Giallorossi on their way, with a 4-0 half-time advantage proving insurmountable for the hosts.
Sergio Oliveira and Nicolo Zaniolo got the other goals for Jose Mourinho’s side, who made it three wins in a row after their recent triumphs against Cagliari and Lecce.
“I said when I arrived here that I want to help the team as much as possible by scoring goals and providing assists and recently both myself and the team have been in good form, good scoring form. So hopefully it can continue!” Abraham said.
“I never set myself a target [for goals]. I just want to keep going until the end. As long as I stay fit and keep playing well then the goals will come. That’s what the manager told me earlier this season and luckily for me we are creating chances and I am scoring.”
On his second goal on Sunday night, he added: “At the end of the day we are just happy to get the goal. I saw that it had crossed the line but I didn’t want to ruin Mancini’s celebrations! But we are happy with the win.”
Despite the ultimately comfortable victory, the England international acknowledged that the side will have to work on the issues that saw them concede two second half goals.
“I think we came out [after the break] with the wrong attitude,” Abraham said.
“When you are 4-0 up it is so easy to go into a mode where you are relaxed. But they came out and were better than us in the second half. They are a good team, the coach did warn us it could happen, and sadly it did happen.
“We need to focus on that and keep working because on another day the game could have finished 4-4.”
