Veretout rues final third mistakes

Jordan Veretout acknowledged Roma came up short on Saturday evening, as they ultimately fell to defeat against Juventus.

A Cristiano Ronaldo strike and an own goal from Roger Ibanez were enough to turn the contest, as the Giallorossi lost 2-0 at the Allianz Stadium.

“We played well, we had a lot of possession – but we didn’t score,” Veretout said. “We need to work on that.

“But we want out there with determination and no fear, trying to play our way. We made mistakes with some of our decision-making in the final third.

“Perhaps we lacked a little patience. We need to take more chances at goal – that’s something I can improve on personally too.

“Now we have to think about the next game, another important one against Udinese, and get back to winning ways.”

After drawing the first meeting between the two sides 2-2 at the start of the campaign, Paulo Fonseca’s men were once again left to rue some missed opportunities.

“In the first meeting we played more directly, on the counter-attack, whereas today it was almost the reverse,” Veretout said.

“We tried to stretch the game by using both flanks. We could have won it, we had plenty of openings in their penalty area. As I’ve already said, we lacked something in the final third.”
