Perotti relieved to get back to winning ways

Winger Diego Perotti acknowledged that Roma's narrow 1-0 win over Gent was a much-needed confidence boost, following a tough few weeks for the Giallorossi.

Carles Perez's first goal for the club decided the game on Thursday evening, given Roma a slender first leg advantage in their Europa League last-32 tie against the Belgian side.

The two teams meet again in Ghent in a week to decide who will make it through to the last-16.

“We wanted a bigger lead to take into the second leg but we couldn’t quite manage it,” Perotti said.

“But it was important not to concede, and we did that. Now we go there to finish the job. It’s a win we needed, that we were missing. Now we can focus on the game against Lecce.”

The team started strongly, then perhaps faded slightly…

“Yes, we need to improve. We did well defensively, it would have been useful to score another goal but we’ll take the win. Now we need to rest and get ready for the game against Lecce."

On Sunday you face Lecce – it’ll be important to turn this into a winning streak.

“That’s true of every game. We need to get back into a winning mindset, we always say it but it’s not easy after the last few games. We got back to winning ways tonight in front of our fans and we want to do that again at the weekend.”
