The Giallorossi made it three wins from their last three games thanks to a 2-1 triumph against Hellas Verona at the Stadio Olimpico, with Veretout (from the penalty spot) and Edin Dzeko the goalscorers.
Paulo Fonseca’s side were made to work for their win in the second half, however, and Veretout was quick to give credit to his teammates for the way they managed to see out the game.
“We knew it would be a tough game today, that we would need to really fight hard to get the win,” Veretout said.
“We had to suffer a bit but we stayed resolute at the back and we got a hugely important three points.”
You showed you can dig in as a team; how important is that at this point in the season?
“If we had not all put in the hard yards today we would not have been able to win. We fought together in order to be able to take home the three points. We need to continue like this.”
You in particular kept running until the end…
“I’m tired now, but I always want to do everything I can for the team. I give 100% out there on the pitch; but the whole team did that, and perhaps even more.”
Now it’s Inter up next for you.
“Every game in Serie A is tough. We need to recover as quickly as we can but it’s a bit easier to do that after a win. After tonight we will be completely focused on that game on Sunday.”
