The French midfielder scored the only goal of the second half to secure a 2-1 win for the Giallorossi against Parma, snapping a three-match losing run for Paulo Fonseca's side.
“We put in a good team performance today,” Veretout said.
“When we all run like we did it makes it easy both to attack and to help out the defence. But we can still do even more – we should have won 3-1 or 4-1.
"We shouldn’t have allowed Parma to still be in the game until the end. But we won, and we are happy about that.”
How important is this win for the team’s confidence?
“After three defeats it’s important to get back on track; tonight we’ve won but we need to recover and turn our attention to Saturday against Brescia. We are playing every three days and we have to make sure we are as ready as possible for Brescia.
Tonight you seemed a lot fresher – is it also a question of mentality?
“It’s about the head as well; after a few defeats like we’ve had you need to respond as quickly as possibly. The best way to do that is by working together, together we can achieve a lot more. We need to continue like this.”
How important is it to have a player like Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the squad?
“We have a lot of great players with lots of experience in this team. Micki, Edin [Dzeko], [Aleksandar] Kolarov, [Federico] Fazio, [Diego] Perotti, others. For us younger players they are a huge help. We have to listen to them and learn from them.”
