The Giallorossi, bringing to an end an intensive run of seven games in 22 days, looked tired at points in the match at the Stadio Ennio Tardini - but were well in the contest before Sprocati's strike shortly after the hour-mark changed the complexion of the match.
Parma goalkeeper Luigi Sepe made a number of fine saves throughout the match - particularly from Javier Pastore and Nicolo Zaniolo - while Aleksandar Kolarov hit the post.
But Paulo Fonseca's men were left disappointed, especially after Cornelius struck on the counter-attack in the closing stages.
Roma are back in action in two weeks, as Brescia come to the Stadio Olimpico.
