Perotti eager to make up for lost time

Diego Perotti hopes that he can make a telling return to action over the next few weeks, after he celebrated reaching 100 appearances for Roma during last weekend’s draw against Inter Milan.

Perotti ended a spell on the sidelines with a second-half substitute appearance against the Nerazzurri at the Stadio Olimpico, a cameo that saw him hit the landmark for the Giallorossi.

Now back to fitness, the Argentine hopes he can have a big impact on the pitch over the next few games.

“Reaching 100 games for Roma is a great honour,” Perotti said.

“Before the game against Bologna I knew I was only a few games shy; for me it is an important landmark, this is a great club and to reach 100 games is truly an honour. It’s something I’ll always take with me.”

He added: “I hope that both myself and [Javier] Pastore can help give the team a little something extra – especially as there are now a few other teammates who are injured.

“I received a lot of messages, the fans think that you sit at home like it’s a holiday when you areinjured – but in fact you train extra every day, you arrive before everyone else and leave after. There is nothing that could make you think it is a holiday.

"Being injured is the worst thing that can happen to a player. I couldn’t wait to get back into training with the guys, and then to play back in the stadium.”

Perotti is unlikely to be considered fit enough to start against Cagliari on Saturday evening, but could be one of the first options coach Eusebio Di Francesco consideres off the bench at the Sardegna Arena.

“I’m expecting a game like the one in Udine – it won’t be easy,” Perotti said.

“We can’t think that because they are struggling in the league it will be easy. Games are won out on the pitch.

“What we did against Inter was positive – we showed small improvements – but it still wasn’t enough to win. Roma should beat Inter, seeing that in recent seasons we’ve finished above them in the league.

"As the coach says, we need to find some consistency.”
