Read a bit more about each of the candidates below...

    EDIN DZEKO (v. Napoli)

What a dominant display this was, at a venue that in recent seasons has not been used to seeing one come from an opposition player. Dzeko showed his dominance in the air to convert a brilliant header early on - and then later in the match sealed matters with a long-range left-footed strike (his supposed 'weaker' foot). Between all that he led the line brilliantly, holding up and linking play to ensure Napoli barely got a foothold in the game.

    DANIELE DE ROSSI (v. Barcelona)

Everyone will always remember Kostas Manolas's decisive late header - but should we really forget the nerveless penalty from De Rossi that set the table for that iconic moment? A vital moment in the tie, the captain took responsibility and converted nervelessly. But that is not why De Rossi is nominated: beyond that goal, for 90 minutes he bossed one of the best midfields ever to play the game, dictating play from his deeper role and ensuring the concession of an away goal (which would have been fatal to any comeback hopes) never happened. A display for the ages.

    LORENZO PELLEGRINI (v. Lazio)

Pellegrini's performance is all the more remarkable when you consider two things: it was his first ever derby appearance, and he only arrived as substitute (replacing the injured Javier Pastore). But what an instant impact he made: an early goal (and what a goal at that), a slaloming run to win the free-kick that Aleksandar Kolarov would fire home, and then the free-kick delivery that Federico Fazio would head home to wrap up the match. Pellegrini was involved in everything good about one of Roma's best performances of the year.

    ANNAMARIA SERTURINI (v. Chievo Verona)

The 20-year-old winger was one of the most important performers in the first half of Roma Women's first campaign in Serie A - and this was arguably her most impactful display. The Giallorosse won 7-1 and it was Serturini who provided most of the damage, scoring two great goals and helping to create a number of others. It was this display that went a long way to earning her an Italy call-up, and the award for the league's Player of the Month in November.
