Stat Attack: 10 facts to know before Roma face Atalanta

Ahead of Monday's first Serie A home game of the 2018-19 season, we look at some of the key facts and figures surrounding Roma's clash against Atalanta...

    1. Plenty of history...

This will be the 113th game between Roma and Atalanta in Serie A. Roma lead the overall standings, with 52 wins to Atalanta’s 25 (35 draws).

    2. The struggle is real...

Atalanta have become something of a bogey team for Roma in recent years – the Giallorossi have not won at home against the Bergamo side in four seasons (two draws, two defeats).

    3. Shooting boots are on...

Roma and Atalanta both managed 17 shots on the opening day of the season – joint second behind Juventus (27).

    4. Defensive solutions in place...

Atalanta were the only team not to concede a shot on target during the opening weekend of Serie A, as they beat Frosinone 4-0.

    5. Dzeko's familiar foe...

Edin Dzeko has played more minutes against Atalanta (540, six games) than any other Serie A side since making the move to the Italian capital. He has scored twice against the club in his last two appearances against them at the Olimpico - and three times overall.

    6. The law of the ex...

Roma midfielder Bryan Cristante made 48 appearances for Atalanta during two seasons with the club. During his time there he scored 12 goals, and provided four assists.

    7. They keep getting younger...

Last weekend Justin Kluivert became the first non-Italian player born in 1999 or later to provide an assist in Serie A.

    8. Two strikers to keep an eye on...

Atalanta striker Andreas Cornelius has not scored in Serie A since he grabbed the first goal against Roma in a 2-1 win at the Olimpico in January. Marco Tumminello, who joined Atalanta from Roma in the summer, could make his debut for his new club against his old one. Tumminello scored three goals in 11 games for Crotone while on loan last season.

    9. A milestone for the Mister...

Monday’s game will be Eusebio Di Francesco’s 200th in Serie A. To date the coach has won 76 of those games, drawing 73 and losing 50. Against Atalanta he has played 11 times – winning three and losing four.

    10. Running man, against a running team...

Kevin Strootman ran 11.6km against Torino – more than 1km more than any other Roma player. For Atalanta both Martin De Roon (11.8km) and Remo Freuler (11.7km) covered more ground than the Dutchman - perhaps a result of Atalanta having played a few more competitive games already this season.
