Dzeko scores on a night when football loses importance

Edin Džeko scored a vital goal for Bosnia on a night when international football was overshadowed by the tragic events that unfolded in Paris

11 Roma players were on international duty on Friday, including German international Antonio Rudiger and French defender Lucas Digne who were both at the Stade de France in Paris, where three people were killed during one of a number of attacks that claimed over 120 lives.

Rudiger completed all 90 minutes of a game that made headlines for all the wrong reasons while Digne was an unused substitute for France who ran out 2-0 winners on the night.

Miralem Pjanic and the aforementioned Džeko both played all 90 minutes as Bosnia drew 1-1 at home to the Republic of Ireland in the first-leg of their Euro 2016 Qualifier. Roma’s No.9 struck an equalizer with just six minutes of the game remaining.

In Brussels, Alessandro Florenzi played 80 minutes for Italy against a Belgium side that featured team-mate Radja Nainggolan. The midfielder, who captained Roma for the first time on Sunday, played all 90 minutes for the hosts who came from a goal down to beat Italy 3-1.

Wojciech Szczesny and Norbert Gyomber also played 90 in friendlies for their national teams: Poland beat Iceland 4-2 at home, while Slovakia defeated visitors Switzerland 3-2.

Kostas Manolas and Vasilis Torosidis both watched on from the bench as Greece bagged a 1-0 friendly win over Luxembourg.

Earlier in the afternoon, Gervinho played in Ivory Coast's 1-0 win over Liberia in the 2018 World Cup Russia qualifying match and on Thursday night, Salih Ucan's Turkey U21 traveled to Cyprus to pick up a 3-0 victory with Roma's No. 48 playing the entire match.
