Florenzi: Mission accomplished

Florenzi: Mission accomplished

Alessandro Florenzi described Roma’s qualification to the knock-out stages of the Champions League as ‘mission accomplished’ after a goalless draw with BATE proved enough to make it out of Group E

"I think positively,” declared the Italian international after the match. “We have to see this as mission accomplished. We're not delighted about the result but it's got us through to the next round. We hope to perform better in our next match and perhaps make better use of our goalscoring opportunities."

What did you make of the team's performance against BATE?

"I think we had 24 shots on goal tonight, so we created a lot. With a touch more killer instinct, we wouldn't have needed to rely on Szczesny's save and could have scored several goals, myself first and foremost. The BATE keeper made a great save from me and one from Edin Dzeko too. Had we both scored, we'd be talking about Roma being back on form now."

So Roma were just unlucky?

"No. We haven't been playing very well recently but at times luck doesn't help us either."

What did the coach focus on before the match?

"We prepared for the game by working on pressing and I think it really came off in the early stages of the second-half. In the first few minutes after the break we had lots of chances thanks to that but we weren't able to make the most of them. The coach works on everything and we just have to follow his instructions. If everyone does their own thing then we'll drift off course."

What about the fans booing?

"The supporters have a right to express their unhappiness, given they pay to watch. I would have preferred it if there were 70,000 booing me though."
