Roma 1-1 AC Milan: 9 facts and figures

The 1-1 draw between Roma and AC Milan in nine facts and figures…

5

As was the case against Chievo in Verona, Saturday’s clash with AC Milan once again saw Roma go in for half-time in the lead only to concede an equaliser and have to settle for a draw. There have now been five matches in Rudi Garcia’s tenure in which the Giallorossi have failed to get the win having been in front at half time. It had never happened to Garcia’s Roma in two consecutive matches before this season.

The 1-1 draw at the Olimpico was Roma’s seventh draw of the season, the highest number of draws in the first half of the season since the 1997-98 season. Prior to the current campaign, the Giallorossi had never drawn more than six games of the first half of the season in a 20-team league format. Roma’s record for draws in the first half of the season is nine, a figure reached once in an 18-team league format (1964-65) and twice in a 16-team format (1970-71 and 1984-85). The Giallorossi have recorded eight draws in the first half of the season on three occasions (1955-56, 1957-58 and 1997-98), while the club has drawn seven games in the first round of matches in seven different seasons (1953-54, 1975-76, 1991-92, 1993-94, 1994-95, 1995-96 and 2015-16).

Toni Rudiger scored his first goal for Roma in what was his 15th Giallorossi appearance in all competitions. The German centre-back becomes the 361st player to score at least one goal for Roma in the top tier of Italian football since 1927.

30

Out of 90 match-ups between Roma and AC Milan in Rome, Saturday’s 1-1 draw at the Olimpico means there have been 30 draws between the two sides, as well as 24 Roma wins and 27 AC Milan triumphs (in the modern format of Serie A). There have also been two draws in the two-group format of Serie A (1928-29 and 1945-56), plus three Roma wins, two draws and two AC Milan wins in the Coppa Italia. The Giallorossi, who are without a win over AC Milan since April 2014, also drew against the Rossoneri at the Olimpico last season – it was 0-0 that day.

34

Roma reach the halfway mark in fifth place with 34 points, seven points fewer than they had at this stage of last season, when the Giallorossi were in second position. Roma will kick off the second half of the season against Hellas Verona next Sunday XXXXXXX points behind league leaders Inter. In the 2009-10 season, Roma ended the second in second place, two points behind Inter, having got to the halfway mark 13 points off the top in fifth place.

90

Radja Nainggolan made his 90th Roma appearance in Saturday’s draw with AC Milan, with 70 of those coming in Serie A. The Belgian midfielder thus draws level with Mario Acerbi, Bruno Pasaola and Mario Tontodonati in the Giallorossi appearances charts.

180

Out of 180 matches against AC Milan in Serie A and the Coppa Italia, Roma have now won 46, drawn 57 and lost 77, scoring 198 goals and conceding 355 along the way.

400

The 1-1 draw against AC Milan was Roma’s 400th home draw in Serie A and Serie B.

592

By coming on to replace Sadiq Umar in the second half against Milan, Francesco Totti made his 592nd Serie A appearance, drawing level with goalkeeper Gianluca Pagliuca in third place in the all-time Serie A appearances charts. Second place is occupied by Javier Zanetti (615), with Paolo Maldini out in front on (647). Totti – who was making his return to action after 105 days out injured – has made 747 appearances for Roma in all competitions.
