Third straight 1-1 against Hellas Verona and a third consecutive draw for Roma in the league. Just like in the first two matches of the calendar year against Chievo and AC Milan, the Giallorossi had to settle for a point come full time after leading going in at the break. As for games against the Gialloblu, you have to go back as far as 1989 to find the last time the Giallorossi drew three in a row: Goalless draws in Rome and Verona in February and June respectively were followed by a 2-2 in November at the Bentegodi.
Radja Nainggolan became the first Roma player to score in Luciano Spalletti’s second spell in charge. His strike against Verona was Roma’s seventh goal in the last 15 minutes of the first half of matches this season (the others came against Frosinone, Sassuolo, Carpi, Fiorentina, Genoa and Chievo).
Nainggolan, operating in the trio behind Edin Dzeko, opened his account for the season against Verona, taking his tally for Roma to eight goals, all of which have come in Serie A.
Draws from 27 games in all competitions, 44% of the total. Roma can only match this percentage in three other campaigns: 1970-71 (18/35, 51%), 1980-81 (20/40, 50%) and 1984/85 (19/43, 44%).
A week after Toni Rudiger scored his first of the season, Nainggolan did likewise, meaning Roma have now had 16 different players find the net in all competitions this season. Half of the scorers have more than one goal to their names: Miralem Pjanic (9), Gervinho (7), Mohamed Salah (6), Alessandro Florenzi, Dzeko (both 5), Daniele De Rossi, Iago Falque (both 3) and Umar Sadiq (2).
Nainggolan’s goal was the club’s 48th from 27 games in all competitions. In 2014-15, Roma brought up a half century in their 34th match of the campaign, away at Feyenoord on 26 February.
Kostas Manolas made his 50th appearance in Serie A, drawing level with Luigi Albani, Luis Del Sol and Antonio Di Carlo.
Including the numbers from his first spell in charge, Spalletti has now overseen 225 competitive matches at Roma, drawing 16 of his 78 home league games.
Luciano Spalletti’s return to the Olimpico was also his 350th game as a coach in Serie A.
