Roma blew Palermo away on Sunday night with a 5-0 thrashing, but who was the Giallorossi’s best player at the Stadio Olimpico?

Let’s see what the papers thought…

Corriere dello Sport: Mohamed Salah 7.5

“More determined and aggressive than usual, he bagged his first brace as a Roma player and moves up to nine league goals for the season. In the first 35 minutes, he tried to use that left boot of his twice but didn’t get close to the goal. He finally received a good ball into space – just how Luciano Spalletti likes it – in the second half, and his shot back across goal gave the Palermo goalie no chance. But that was just the beginning. His pirouette down on the byline electrified the Stadio Olimpico and almost seemed a tribute to Francesco Totti, who allowed himself a smile in the stands. When he plays like that he’s a joy to watch.

Corriere della Sera: Miralem Pjanic 7.5

“Lit the whole place up. He empathised with Edin Dzeko – after that tragic moment when he missed an open goal – and provided him with an assist for the goal of redemption. He also hit the post with an (almost) perfect free-kick. He was the best.”

Il Messaggero: Mohamed Salah

“This time, as well as the usual raids and occasional wrong decisions, he went home with two splendid goals. One was vintage Salah – a left-footed first-time shot back across goal. The other was a little bit of genius from the byline. Nine Serie A goals, first league brace.”

Il Tempo: Mohamed Salah 7.5

“The usual high-speed bursts plus two beauties. The second was an incredible goal, a left-footed curling effort from the byline.”

Leggo: Mohamed Salah 7.5

“The Egyptian Messi. He dominated the right flank and terrorised the fragile Palermo defence. It was his first brace in a Roma shirt and the second goal – scored from the byline – is definitely one to file under ‘worldies’.”

La Gazzetta dello Sport: Mohamed Salah 8

“He may be a little selfish, but when he scores he always takes three or four opponents with him. His first goal was a quick move, his second an imitation of Christian Vieri.”
