Alberto De Rossi: Great feeling to see first-team debuts

Alberto De Rossi has expressed his delight at seeing four of his Primavera charges make their first-team debuts this season

“It’s a great feeling,” declared the Primavera boss. “I really put myself in their shoes whenever they start or come on off the bench. I also feel a bit scared in case they make a mistake. It’s wonderful to see and personally it makes me very satisfied.”

Edoardo Soleri made his first-team debut back in September in the Champions League match against BATE Borisov at home, while there were Serie A debuts for Sadiq Umar against Bologna and Lorenzo Di Livio and Marco Tumminello in the last match against Chievo Verona. There was particular cause for celebration over Sadiq, who has already scored two senior goals against Genoa and Chievo.

For the Primavera this Saturday heralds a return to action after the winter break, with a one-legged Coppa Italia quarter-final against Inter the first match back.

What kind of match are you expecting against the Nerazzurri?

“It’s going to be a very tough match. Inter are a strong side. As has always been the case in recent years, they’re capable of being successful and right now they’re at the top of their group. We’ve played each other a lot over the past few years, in the league play-offs and at the last Viareggio Cup. Both of us always get to the latter stages and that’s a big positive for both clubs.”

What shape is your side in going into Saturday’s game?

“We started working again very early this year in order to prepare for this important game, which we’re taking very seriously. The lads have trained really hard, both those that came to the United States and all the others. It was great to go away together to Orlando and I would have even been happy to stay for a day or two more. It was a fantastic learning experience and we were able to play against three sides, one of which was very good indeed.”

Kick-off at the Agostino Di Bartolomei pitch at Trigoria is set for Saturday at 15:00 CET.
