Calvarese to referee Sassuolo v Roma

Gianpaolo Calvarese, from the Teramo AIA refereeing division, has been appointed to officiate Roma’s next league match away at Sassuolo

The game is scheduled to take place at the Mapei Stadium in Reggio Emilia on Tuesday 2 February, with kick-off set for 20:45 CET.

It will be the seventh time Calvarese has taken charge of the Giallorossi, with Roma winning three and losing three so far under the Abruzzo-born official. Roma lost both their first and last matches under Calvarese – the 2-0 defeat at Palermo on 30 March 2013 and the 2-0 home loss to Atalanta on 29 November 2015.

Roma’s three wins under Calvarese’s stewardship were the 2-0 triumph at Sampdoria on 25 September 2013 in which Mehdi Benatia and Gervinho got the goals, the 4-0 home defeat of Genoa on 12 January 2014 thanks to goals from Alessandro Florenzi, Francesco Totti, Maicon and Benatia, and finally the 3-0 home win over Chievo on 18 October 2014 courtesy of goals from Mattia Destro, Adem Ljajic and Totti.

Calvarese will be joined at the Stadio Olimpico by assistants Riccardo Di Fiore and Salvatore Longo. The fourth official will be Marco Barbirati. The additional assistants will be Davide Massa and Renzo Candussio.
