Strootman: Debut goal at the Olimpico a special feeling

Kevin Strootman has taken a trip down memory lane to his Giallorossi debut and his maiden goal at the Olimpico, also revealing what was behind his celebration on that occasion

"My first goal at the Stadio Olimpico was a special feeling," the Dutch midfielder said. "I said to my fans, my family and to everybody that when I score a goal I'm going to jump over the boarding and celebrate it with the fans."

The first of the two goals he's scored in front of the Olimpico faithful came during the first game after the mid-season point in 2013-14: "It was a 2-0 against Livorno, so not really the moment to jump over the boarding but I just did it and celebrated with the fans."

Strootman covered all of his debuts in the interview with 90/24 Sports, beginning with Sparta Rotterdam, then Utrecht, the Netherlands national team, PSV Eindhoven and finally touching on his move to Rome in 2013.

"A debut is always special. Playing your first game with your new team-mates or with your national team is a strange feeling. You want to prove yourself to your team-mates and to the fans because the first impression in football is so important. I made my debut for AS Roma and then we won our first ten games, so it was a great start."
