Brocchi: Established Roma showed us where we must improve

The Milan coach has admitted that Saturday’s game illustrated the current gap between the two sides

Milan coach Christian Brocchi has admitted that Saturday’s game against Roma illustrated the current gap between the two sides.

Luciano Spalletti finished the season unbeaten in 17 matches as they romped to a 3-1 win at the San Siro, with Mohamed Salah, Stephan El Shaarawy and Emerson Palmieri getting on the scoresheet for the visitors.

The result meant Roma ultimately finished third in the final Serie A table, 23 points ahead of the Rossoneri – who finished seventh.

After the game Brocchi acknowledged that his side have a lot of improving to do.

"We need to have that extra bite for matches of this type of level. Roma at this moment in time are clearly superior to us and they are an established side," Brocchi said.

"When you take on a team like this you need to have determination and a never say die spirit. I was disappointed to see mistakes, little aggression and not enough help from team-mates."

The Milan coach highlighted Philippe Mexes, the former Giallorossi defender, as one of the few Milan players who offered the right spirit.

"There is little to say about Mexes in terms of his character, he brings personality, he never gives in and it would be good to see this kind of attitude and fight from every member of the squad," Brocchi added.
