Mario Rui spoke of his satisfaction after Roma’s 3-2 win over Terek Grozny on Sunday evening, saying it was a good end to a “tough, intense” week of work.
The Portuguese started the win over Russian outfit Terek Grozny in Pinzolo, before making way for Moustapha Seck at half-time.
“We did what the boss asked us to do, even if we’re not up to top speed just yet,” the left-back said. “As for the goals we conceded, it’s better to let them in now than in competitive matches.”
What instructions did Luciano Spalletti give you before the game?
“He didn’t say anything in particular. He spoke to the whole team and told us to do what we’d been trying in training. All things considered, I think we managed that.”
How is your understanding with Diego Perotti on that left wing coming along?
“We’ve not had long together, but Diego is such a quality player that it makes everything easier. I enjoyed it.”
What kind of physical shape is the team in?
“It’s been a really tough, intense ten days, but that’s the way it should be. We were up against a side that are further along in their preparations than us and they caused us a few problems early on. It wasn’t easy to get the legs moving after all the hard work we’ve done, but it turned out well in the end.”
How well is the team playing right now?
“We’re getting better. Several new players have come in, myself included, so it’s to be expected that it goes slowly at the start. We have some more work ahead of us and I’m sure we’ll be ready for when the season starts in earnest.”
