Spalletti has won four of the six previous league meetings between the pair, while Gasperini triumphed on the other two occasions.
Curiously all six of those matches came while they were in charge of Roma and Genoa respectively, albeit during two different spells. That trend will of course come to an end when Gasperini's Atalanta host the Giallorossi at the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d'Italia on Sunday afternoon.
Their most recent encounter was the Giallorossi's trip to Genoa last season, when goals by Mohamed Salah, Francesco Totti and Stephan El Shaarawy sealed a 3-2 victory. Panagiotis Tachtsidis and Leonardo Pavoletti were on target for the hosts.
Their first meeting came in the 2007-08 season, when a late header by Christian Panucci saw Roma snatch a 1-0 victory at the Stadio Ferraris.
Both of Gasperini's wins against Spalletti came on home soil, while he is yet pick up a point away, losing both visits to the Olimpico 2008 and 2009.
Roma's last trip to Atalanta ended in a draw, however - the game finishing 3-3 last season.
