Fazio to wear No. 20 this season

The Argentine defender inherits the shirt number worn by his former Sevilla team-mate Seydou Keita for the last two seasons.

Since 1995-96, when squad numbers were introduced to the Italian league, No. 20 has been worn by some notable names in Giallorossi history.

Francesco Totti had this shirt for a solitary season, while in 2001-02 Gabriel Omar Batistuta opted to switch from No. 18, which he wore during the previous year, to No. 20 as Roma set out on the defence of their title.

Simone Perrotta has been the longest custodian of this particular shirt, wearing it for nine seasons from 2004-05 to 2012-13.

There was no particular reason behind Fazio's choice: at his previous clubs in Europe – Sevilla, Tottenham and Sevilla again – he has worn 28, 23, 2, 21 and 16.
