The defender nodded home just before half-time to give Luciano Spalletti's side a 2-0 advantage in the Europa League game - as they went on to clinch an emphatic 4-0 victory that puts them top of the embryonic Group E table.
“We played very well tonight and not just at the back," Fazio told reporters. "We bossed the game and keeping a clean sheet was very important for everyone’s confidence. We’re a great team and we hope to continue keeping it tight like tonight.
“The coach was clear. We had to make a fast start, keep the ball and dictate the tempo and that’s exactly what we did.
“Let’s hope this big win can be a turning point in the season and that we can take this form into the league too.”
Having scored just days after joining the club in a friendly against Latina, Thursday's strike was Fazio's first competitive goal for the Giallorossi.
“I’m delighted to have scored my first competitive goal for Roma, a strike that allowed us to go into the break two goals to the good," he added. "I dedicate it to my family and my wife who always support me."
Attention now turns to Sunday's Serie A meeting with Inter.
“Inter are inconsistent, they lost today but they’re capable of big performances like against Juventus," Fazio noted. "It will be important to make a fast start and boss the game like we did tonight.”
