A second half substitute from coach Luciano Spalletti, Perotti had not even been on the pitch 10 minutes when he was called upon to break the deadlock from the penalty spot.
After successfully doing so he repeated the trick 10 minutes later, as the two men who won those penalties - Edin Dzeko and Mohamed Salah - also got on the scoresheet to complete the 4-0 triumph.
"It was very important to start with a win," Perotti said afterwards. "After the draw against Porto it was crucial in terms of gaining confidence. Now we'll rest up ahead of Tuesday [the return leg with the Portuguese side].
"I feel good, [the team] have backed me 100% ever since I joined and that's massive. I came off the bench today and my first thought was how I could contribute."
On the Porto game, he added: "They'll obviously come out and look to score and we'll be able to exploit the space they leave us. We got a good draw in the first leg despite playing for long periods with ten men.
"We have to score at home in front of our supporters."
