7 facts and figures on Roma 4-0 Udinese

The Giallorossi's superb opening-day victory over Udinese revisited in seven facts and figures

2.55

Roma are averaging 2.55 goals-per-game during Luciano Spalletti's second spell at the club. Whether at home or away, the figure doesn't change - 2.55. It basically equates to two and half goals every time they play...mightily impressive.

4-0

Roma's 4-0 victory over Udinese equals their biggest winning margin on the opening day of the season. 4-0 at home to Fiorentina on 12 September 1937, 5-1 at home to Napoli on 26 October 1941 (a campaign which ended in the club's first league title), 4-0 at home to Genoa on 13 September 1953 and 4-0 at home to Fiorentina on 9 September 1990 are the four other times the Giallorossi have thrashed the opposition on the first weekend of the season. Roma also struck four in a 4-1 Week one success at home to Vicenza on 18 September 1955.

It had been four long years since an attacking player had last scored Roma's first goal of the season. In 2012, Pablo Osvaldo found the net with an incredible overhead kick in a 2-2 home draw against Catania. Since then the scorers have been Daniele De Rossi (2013 at Livorno), Radja Nainggolan (2014 against Fiorentina) and Alessandro Florenzi (2015 at Verona). The common denominator? All midfielders. It was time for a forward to step up and that's exactly what Diego Perotti did with a double. His first brace for the Giallorossi.

6

Kevin Strootman, who started in a three-man midfield, wore the captain's armband for the first time in a competitive match for Roma. The win over Udinese was also the first time that the Dutchman has featured in the Giallorossi's opening match of the season. In his previous three campaigns, Strootman missed out on Serie A's first weekend through injury.

Luciano Spalletti has broken his opening day hoodoo at the helm of the Giallorossi. In 2008 and 2009 - his final two years at the club during his first spell - Roma drew 1-1 against Napoli on the opening weekend of the 2008-09 season, before losing 3-2 at Genoa the following year. His previous Week one success before Saturday's victory over Udinese dated back to 2007-08 and a 2-0 win at Palermo with strikes from Philippe Mexes and Alberto Aquilani.

41

Bruno Peres made his full Roma debut on Saturday evening. The Brazilian, wearing 13, has become the 41st different Brazilian to represent the Giallorossi in competitive action.

1999

Not since 1999 had Roma been awarded an opening day spot-kick. The penalty came at Piacenza's Stadio Garilli, with the Giallorossi wearing black against Gigi Simoni's Biancorossi. It was also Fabio Capello's first game in charge. Referee Pierluigi Collina pointed to the spot after Cafu was fouled in the box and Francesco Totti made no mistake from 12 yards. The match later finished 1-1. The run without a Week one penalty was ended on Saturday as Marco Di Bello twice pointed to the spot.
