Media View: The papers' standout performer in the derby

MW

Who did the Italian newspapers give credit to following Roma's latest Derby della Capitale victory?

Two goals against Lazio sparked wild celebrations for the Giallorossi. Roma won the derby thanks to goals from Kevin Strootman and Radja Nainggolan - but who have the press singled out for praise this morning?

Let's read the verdict from six national newspapers:

Corriere della Sera: Nainggolan 8

"He changed the game when he moved into the No. 10 position in a 4-2-3-1. Excellent second half with a killer pass and a goal."

La Gazzetta dello Sport: Nainggolan 7.5

"Versatile. First in a midfield three, before breathing down Lucas Biglia's neck. He got Roma moving quickly and played killer balls, like the cross for Edin Dzeko. He sealed the win with help from Federico Marchetti."

Il Giornale: Nainggolan 7

"Roma were rewarded once he upped the tempo. He provided a great ball for Dzeko, scored his first goal in a Rome derby and bossed the middle of the park."

Il Messaggero: Nainggolan 8

"A massive performance in terms of his energy levels and character. Some wonderful touches too. He played the ball that Dzeko was set to head home and scored the second which killed the game. While his fitness levels faded for a spell this season, today [Sunday] he was once again one of the sharpest out there.

"One question remains. Where did that Cafu-esque piece of skill in front of the Monte Mario stand - with two Lazio players surrounding him - come from?"

La Repubblica: Nainggolan 7.5

"Unstoppable between the lines, he dominated his battle with Biglia. He allowed himself some runs forward and sealed the points with a fierce right-footed drive from long range."

Il Tempo: Nainggolan 7.5

"His second half performance was silly good. Part of the credit for his goal should go to Marchetti but the most exciting moment was his Ninja escape in front of the Monte Mario, as he eluded Ciro Immobile and Senad Lulic. Memorable."
