Pivarnik: Roma are on a different level to our recent opponents

Piva

Viktoria Plzen coach Roman Pivarnik has warned his players to be ready for a significant step up in class when they face Roma in the Europa League on Thursday

The Czech champions host the Giallorossi at the Doosan Arena in the Group E opener, and Pivarnik knows his players will have to rise to the challenge in front of their own fans.

However, he has promised his side will stick to their attacking style - even in the face of a dangerous opponent.

"We have done our homework for the game against Roma, we will be ready," Pivarnik said. "They are a different level compared to the teams we have faced so far.

"They are very strong in attack, with Edin Dzeko, Francesco Totti and Diego Perotti. We will focus our play on the wings.

"Roma are strong on the counter and excellent at getting in behind the opposition defence. We will stick to our style of play and see if it works."

Plzen have done well against Italian sides in the past, famously knocking Napoli out of the same competition during the 2012-13 season. Forward Michal Duris is optimistic a similar result can be achieved.

"The last time we faced an Italian team was against Napoli," Duris noted. "I hope to be successful like on that occasion.

"Our tactical approach will work, we want to bear the tactics in mind but stick to our attacking style as well."

The forward is looking forward to facing one Giallorossi star in particular.

"The Roma team is full of excellent players, but I can't wait to face Totti above all," he said. "Despite the fact he's 39, he's still a wonderful footballer. He has stayed loyal to his team and that is fantastic, he's an icon at Roma."
