Rudiger: Respect is key

Antonio Rudiger visited the Istituto Vittorio Polacco in Rome on Tuesday afternoon for the latest instalment in the A Scuola di Tifo project

The German defender met around 80 students to speak about themes including accepting defeat, recognising the merits of an opponent, respect for the rules and the fight against racism.

“This school is a fantastic example,” said Rudiger after the event. “It doesn’t matter if you’re white, black, Muslim or Jewish – what matters is respect.

“We shouldn’t pay any attention to racists and thankfully not all people are like that. Only a few people have strange things in their heads. At the end of the day, respect is key.”

A Scuola di Tifo is an awareness programme run by AS Roma and Roma Cares in collaboration with Geco Animation. The initiative aims to promote sporting values and is targeted at primary and secondary schoolchildren.
