See what the Brazilian had to say about the result...
How did it feel to start against your old team tonight?
“It was a unique feeling because I spent several years at Inter. It felt quite new and at first I wasn’t sure how I’d react, but as soon as the match started all that went away because I know that I have to give everything I have for Roma. I think I did well tonight.”
The way you marked Antonio Candreva was vital to Roma’s win tonight.
“Candreva can be dangerous because if you let him play he’ll make runs and put crosses in. I know him well – I’ve played against him lots of times, so that made it a bit easier. The coach has shown confidence in me and the rest of the team helped me out there and made my life easier.”
How big is this win over Inter?
“It shows that we’re in good shape because Inter are a tough side and were in a nice run of form, having won nine from ten before tonight. We knew it was going to be a difficult game, but – as I’ve said – we performed excellently and secured a massive three points. Now we need to focus on Wednesday because that’s another huge game.”
Did the boss ask you just to focus on containing Candreva or did he ask you to run at him too?
“If the space was there I had the option of attacking, but I’m a more defensive player than a Bruno Peres, for example. I think I had a really good game tonight and Candreva found it tough going. I’m delighted with the win and I feel confident.”
What did you make of Inter?
“[Roberto] Gagliardini is a vital player for Inter now, plus they have Joao Mario, who is a fantastic player both technically and tactically. I think we caused them problems tonight and that’s why we’ve come away with an important three points.”
