Juan Jesus: Hard work was the key to victory

JJ

See what defender Juan Jesus had to say in the aftermath of Sunday's 1-0 victory over Genoa in Liguria...

It was never going to be easy to get the three points today…

“It’s always a tough match here, because Genoa press you very hard. We knew the difficulties the match was going to hold but we did what the boss asked of us and secured the result.”

Roma have been looking more compact in recent games – would you agree with that?

“Yes. We need everyone to pitch in – the work [Edin] Dzeko does, for example, in dropping back to help the midfielders is vital for us in defence. At the same time, when we can it’s good for the defenders to help create chances going forward.”

You switched back to the three-man defence today. How did you find it?

“I played with a back three in my last team, so I feel comfortable in that system. We have to be ready to play however the coach decides. Our job is to do what’s best for Roma.”

How much confidence does it give you to have a keeper like Wojciech Szczesny behind you?

“He instills real confidence because he’s a great goalkeeper and he’s performing very well, just like the rest of the team. He pulled off a massive save in the first half and there was more on top of that, so well done to him.”
