Midfielder Leandro Paredes acknowledged that the presence of Daniele De Rossi and Kevin Strootman ahead of him in the pecking order is inspiring him to get better.
The Argentine lit up Sunday's 4-1 victory over Torino, as he produced a breathtaking half-volley from 25 yards to effectively wrap up the tie with 25 minutes remaining.
The Giallorossi moved back within seven points of Juventus at the top of Serie A, on a weekend where Napoli, Inter Milan and Atalanta all also emerged victorious.
“We had to react today because our rivals had all won," Paredes noted. "We knew we couldn’t afford to slip up. Luckily we’ve got the win and that’s the most important thing.
“[Being lethal in front of goal] was what needed to change. We need to keep working hard to ensure we keep improving.”
Paredes has often had to watch on this season, as Strootman and De Rossi dominated in midfield. He admitted that their example has forced him to keep progressing.
“I still need to get better," he acknowledged. "I know I have two team-mates in my position who are doing very well so I hope to match up to them.”
