Media Watch: Perotti and Strootman the positives in defeat

See what the Italian press had to say about the Giallorossi in the wake of Saturday's 2-1 home defeat against Napoli.

Kevin Strootman's late goal was not enough for Roma to turn things around - but both he and winger Diego Perotti gained a measure of praise for their performances.

Il Corriere dello Sport – Perotti 7

“He barely got a look in playing on the right in the first half but when he switched flank in the second period his class came to the fore. He ran Hysaj ragged, repeatedly taking him on and beating him. Roma's best chances came from Perotti's feet: he set up Strootman for the goal and drew two superb saves out of Reina (the second pushed onto the bar via Koulibaly's deflection). He was the only Roma man who sparkled on an otherwise grim afternoon for the Giallorossi.”

La Gazzetta dello Sport – Perotti 7

“He could have done better with one of those curling efforts and could have spared us that dive in the box but that's where our beef with him ends. There was the run and pull-back for Strootman to score, his shot that drew a superhuman save out of Reina and countless bursts down the flank. The most inspired and purposeful Roma player.”

Il Corriere della Sera – Perotti 6.5

“The only Giallorossi man who posed a threat for 90 minutes. He set up the goal, hit the bar and had a goal of his own ruled out.”

Il Messaggero – Perotti 6.5

“If ever there was any doubt, it's clear now: Diego needs to play on the left. He produced flashes of brilliance, hit the woodwork and showed plenty of attacking intent, besides a fine piece of play to set up Strootman. A positive display.”

La Repubblica – Szczesny 6.5

“It was his long arm preventing Rog from making it 0-3 that ensured there was something still to play for in the 94th minute.”

Il Tempo – Strootman 6

“He didn't pull out of a single challenge, despite all the chasing he had to do. He never gave up and scored to make it 2-1, handing Roma the advantage in head-to-head results with Napoli.”
